Tips for working with SCORM

SCORM is a wonderful protocol, that had a vast contribution to the widespread of elearning. However, dealing with SCORM content is not always easy. Below you will find a few tips that will help you deal with the most common issues.

The content won't import

Normally, if you upload a SCORM 1.2 zip file when creating a unit, it will be automatically imported. However, there are cases that this will not happen, and the file will simply appear as available to download. Common reasons for this are:

  1. The file is not SCORM 1.2 (but SCORM 2004 or some other standard)
  2. The file is not packaged according to the SCORM 1.2 specification (very common case: The zip file contains a folder with all the files, rather than the files directly, as imposed by the standard)

Articulate Storyline

Content will crash/close when playing in iPad/iPhone

If you experiencing your browser or tab suddenly closing when using an iPad (or any iOS device), then this is probably due to the content exceeding your device's memory limit. You may have to update your Storyline version and repack. See this article for some additional information

Getting "Error: unable to acquire LMS API" when ran on iPad/iPhone with Chrome in popup mode

This is a known problem with the way Chrome for iPad launches popups. Currently the only workaround is to use Safari.
